Carte Blah - Edulis

At this point there is no secret that our dining experience in Toronto left so much to be desired.  If someone asked me if I wanted a blank check I would probably say 'yes' at first but after our experience at Edulis, I now say that carte blanche can also be carte blah! Unfortunately we tried not to recall the name of what ate but at least we can show you:

FIRST COURSE: ASPARAGUS DISH

Initially we thought this was going to be great because we love our asparagus but when it came out wrapped in salmon--our least favorite fish--our excitement quickly waned.
Without the salmon I am sure it would have been fine

SECOND COURSE: VEGGIE DISH

Our next surprise was this dish which quite frankly we can't even remember.  Dr. J ate a few bites but I was not feeling it.  It isn't like it tasted bad it just wasn't what we were looking for.
We want to eat meat!

THIRD COURSE:  SARDINE-MUSHROOM DISH

Sardines?  Really?!  Dr. J wouldn't even try this dish but because I love mushrooms; I managed to pick around the fish and eat them.
We would eat the flower instead of the fish!

FOURTH COURSE: ANOTHER MUSHROOM DISH

Well since edulis is a mushroom I guess that is why they are part of every meal.  The sauce was really good.

We picked our way through the mushrooms

FIFTH COURSE: RABBIT

Poor Peter Cottontail!  Dr. J again couldn't bring herself to eat this so I took one for the team and ate a few bites.  It reminded me of the time when I was a kid and I used to move my food around on my plate to make it look like I ate it!  We just felt so bad since the people in the restaurant seemed so nice.

SIXTH COURSE:  DESSERT

Typically this is our favorite part of any meal but this cake was just soggy.  The topping was the best part of this dish.
Soggy Cake

Toppings

Disclaimer:  We really wanted to like this place and they really tried hard but I think this was a case where Dr. J and my taste buds are not ready for this type of culinary freedom!
